Abstract


This study aims to describe the role of schools in shaping the character of discipline and responsibility in elementary school students. The characters of discipline and responsibility are important foundations in the development of students' personalities from an early age. In the context of basic education, schools and teachers have a great responsibility not only as deliverers of teaching materials, but also as role models of behaviour and shapers of character values. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method in one elementary school. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that the formation of disciplinary and responsible characters was carried out through habituation strategies, role modelling, drafting class rules with students, giving rewards and sanctions, and personal approaches to students who had difficulties. Teachers also act as mentors and motivators in helping students understand the consequences of their actions. The conclusion of this study shows that the active role of schools, especially teachers, is very decisive in shaping the sustainable character of discipline and responsibility in elementary school students.
