Abstract


This research focuses on enhancing both learning enthusiasm and achievement in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) among third-grade pupils at SDN 02 Mojorejo, Madiun. The study emerged from the identification of low student motivation, which was closely associated with unsatisfactory IPAS academic performance that failed to meet the criteria of classical learning completeness. To address this issue, the study applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart framework, implemented through two iterative cycles encompassing the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation. The participants consisted of 24 students enrolled in the third grade at SDN 02 Mojorejo, Madiun City. Data were gathered through systematic classroom observations to capture learning motivation, written assessments to measure IPAS learning achievement, and documentation to support the research process. The findings revealed a substantial positive shift in students’ motivation, progressing from a low level prior to the intervention to a high level by the end of the second cycle. In parallel, students’ IPAS academic performance showed marked improvement, as reflected in the increase of the class mean score from 64.2 before the intervention to 81.4 in the second cycle, accompanied by a rise in classical mastery from 37.5% to 87.5%. These outcomes indicate that the integration of serial picture media serves as an effective instructional strategy for boosting both motivation and learning outcomes in elementary school IPAS instruction
