Monograf Berbasis Riset Potensi Fungi Ascomycota dalam Biodegradasi Herbisida
Abstract
The intensive use of herbicides in agricultural activities has a negative impact in the form of the accumulation of chemical residues that are difficult to break down in the environment. Fungi from the Ascomycota phylum have enzymatic capabilities that enable biodegradation, which is the breakdown of complex chemical compounds into simpler and less harmful forms. This article discusses the role and potential of Ascomycota fungi in the biodegradation of herbicides as part of ecosystem-friendly environmental biotechnology efforts. Studies show that this group of fungi can produce various oxidative and hydrolytic enzymes that are effective in degrading herbicides, thus having great potential for use in bioremediation programs for contaminated agricultural land. The findings were then summarized in a research-based monograph validated as a learning medium, which is expected to enrich the literature on environmental biotechnology education while providing environmentally friendly alternative solutions to herbicide pollution.
