Abstract


The research aimed to determine the variation of fingerprint patterns and the differentiation of the total ridge count of the students from various ethnic in Widya Mandala Catholic University of Madiun. The samples of the students fingerprints were taken using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. The description of the fingerprint were achieved by taking ten fingerprints of each student on while paper. The result of the fingerprint observation was counted by percentage of each pattern and the sum of the ridges was counted by its average. Generally, Nias and Minang ethnic have whorl pattern 90% and 70% and Javanese, Dayak, Chinese, Flores and Timorese ethnic have loop pattern 50%, 54%, 79%, 82,5%, and 90% while Mentawai ethnic has proportional pattern of loop and whorl 50%. Arch pattern has lower percentage from loop and whorl pattern of all ethnic.
