Abstract

Lembah village of Dolopo district is one of the agrarian villages. However, when the harvest arrives, farmers prefer to burn the straw for easy and quick reasons. This cause air pollution, soil became to barren, the number of microbes are killed and the micro and macro nutrients needed by plants are lost. Alternative solutions that can be done is to make compost from straw with the help of sugar cane and EM4. The methods used are program preparation, product preparations, and straw compost analysis, manual handbooking, socialization and training, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The result of this community empowerment program is that farmer groups have the potential to develop straw compost. The manual for making straw compost is good and feasible for community use. The farmer group can make the straw compost independently with the percentage of material achievement is 80% of the total groups members. The result showed that the obstacles faced by the farmer group were diligent in making straw compost because it needs to be checked daily. The result of monitoring and evaluation indicate that the farmer groups are committed to developing straw compost as a program sustainability effort.
