Abstract

Cellulose degrading bacteria is called cellulolytic bacteria. Cellulose is the most organiccompound in nature, because the structure of the whole plant material consists mostly of cellulose. A network consisting of several layers of cellulose fibers is the main reinforcing element of plant cell walls. Fallen leaves on the ground allows that the cellulose content in the soil is high, it is likely to be able to find a cellulose degrading bacteria in the ecosystem. Bacteria in the soil will degrade cellulose to monosaccharide molecules are easily absorbed by plants which will then be used for growth. This study includes qualitative research, using qualitative descriptive approach refers to the description of the results of isolation and characterization of cellulolytic bacteria that live in soil Jamus Tea Gardens.

Soil samples were grown in media order CMC (carboxy methyl cellulose) and then in the characterization based on macroscopic and microscopic as well as measuring the potential or the activity of cellulolytic bacteria were seen from the clear zone that appears around the colony.Result of isolation and characterization of cellulolitic bacteria on tea garden soil Jamus got 8 isolates consisting of 4 genus namely Bacillus, Pseudomonas Cellulomonas and Micrococcus. The potential of cellulolytic bacteria from 8 isolates produced clear zones all of which were marked that all isolates were found capable of producing cellulase enzymes. The modified proteolytic bacteria validation results showed that the average rate of 86.25% was considered appropriate for use without revision
