PENGARUH MODEL PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS MASALAH (PROBLEM BASED LEARNING) TERHADAP KETERAMPILAN PROSES SAINS SISWA

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of problem based learning models on the ability of science process skills in class VII SMP students in the solar system material. This type of research is Quasi Experiment with the design of Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population of this study was class VII Nganjuk Public Middle School, amounting to 288 students. The study sample used 2 classes, namely, class VII-B as the experimental group and class VII-E as the control group. The independent variable of this study is the problem based learning model, while the dependent variable is science process skills. Data were collected by observation techniques and analyzed by Mann- Whitney statistical test (α = 0.05). The results of this study indicate that the majority of the experimental group had science process skills in the excellent category, namely as many as 21 students (67.7%), while the majority of the control group had science process skills in the good category, as many as 26 students (81.3 %). The Mann Whitney test produces a significance value of 0,000, where the value is less than α = 0.05 so the hypothesis can be accepted. There is influence on the problem based learning model on the ability of science process skills in class VII of SMP Negeri 5 Nganjuk on the material solar system. It is recommended for science teachers to use a problem based learning model in various materials related to science, because the learning model is able to help improve students' science process skills.
